THE YOKOHAMA ILLUMINATION

　From November to February, we will be holding "THE YOKOHAMA ILLUMINATION," a campaign that connects illumination events taking place in various locations around Yokohama's waterfront city center. In addition to promoting over 40 events taking place in tourist spots, commercial facilities, shopping streets, and more, we will also be holding participatory projects such as a digital stamp rally that you can enjoy around the city, and an illumination and night view photo contest.
　Enjoy a special experience only available this winter, where the brilliance of lights overlaps with the beautiful night view of Yokohama, one of Japan's new top three cities for night views.

About participating events

　Starting in November, Yokohama Lumina Square at the west exit of Yokohama Station, Yokohama Mirai connecting Yokohama Station to the Minato Mirai area, the Christmas Market at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, and Isezaki☆Light at Isezaki Mall will be held, while in December, Yamashita Park will host Winter Wonder Park Yokohama 2025-26 and the city-wide light and music spectacle Yokohama in the Night <Yorunoyo 2025> will begin, creating a gorgeous Christmas season. Furthermore, the Yokohama Chinese New Year Festival 2026 will begin in January, making Yokohama even more exciting in the winter after the New Year.

About Japan's New Three Most Spectacular Night Views

In October 2015, the YAKEI Convention & Visitors Bureau, Japan's only organization dedicated to night view tourism, established a new brand to promote domestic and international nighttime tourism.Based on votes by night view appreciation experts across Japan (individuals certified through the Night View Appreciation Examination), the top three cities are designated as the “New Three Japanese Cities with the Most Spectacular Night Views.”Yokohama was selected as the first city in the Tokyo Metropolitan area in 2024.

Reasons for selecting Yokohama City (Comment by the Night View Convention Bureau)
"In recent years, night-time events such as 'Yorunoyo' and 'Yokohama Sparkling Twilight' have become popular, mainly around the bay area, and serve as models for other cities. Not only is the night view itself attractive, but the wide variety of content that makes use of these resources is providing satisfaction to many night view experts. The city was recognized for its growing appeal as a foundation for the city, including the fluidity of the night view, which changes with the city's changes."

What is "yorunoyo"

"Yorunoyo 2025: Yokohama at Night" is one of Japan's largest illumination events. The harbor's waterfront, historical buildings, and modern buildings come alive in time with light and music in this spectacular show, as well as a large-scale projection mapping display at the Osanbashi Yokohama International Passenger Terminal and an interactive light show in Yamashita Park. Yokohama will be beautifully illuminated on a winter night.

    The "Whale Lamp" is a glowing whale object that appears at the viewpoint. Not only can you enjoy it as part of the performance, but it's also sure to make a great photo spot. If you spot it, be sure to take a photo and make it a memory of your night in Yokohama.
  • Decarbonization efforts
    We aim to source at least 75% of the electricity used at the event from renewable energy sources (mainly biodiesel fuel made from waste cooking oil), and by purchasing non-fossil fuel certificates, we are working towards 100% renewable energy.In addition to the electricity used at the event, we are also considering sustainability, such as decarbonization and resource reuse, in the overall efforts of the event, including public relations materials and novelties.
